Welcome! Have a look around
You need to know the difference between the two
Let’s get one thing straight: just because your body is “burning fat” doesn’t mean you’re losing fat.
Read that again.
Because this is the exact kind of nonsense fitness influencers and supplement companies bank on to confuse you into buying overpriced fat burners, fasting gimmicks, and metabolic teas that taste like regret.
If you’re a busy South Asian woman who’s been doing everything right—eating less, moving more, cutting the rice (๐ญ)—but the scales still haven’t moved... there’s a good chance this little confusion is one of the culprits.
So let’s break it down.
Fat burning is a fuel source, not a weight-loss strategy.
It simply means your body is using fat as energy at that moment.
This can happen:
When you’re resting
When you’re walking
When you're asleep
Even when you're doing low-intensity workouts
But here’s the catch: your body might burn fat during a workout… and then store it right back later if you’re eating too many calories overall.
That’s like transferring money from one account to another and wondering why your savings haven’t grown.
Just because fat was “burned” doesn’t mean it’s gone.
Fat loss is when your body gets rid of stored body fat over time — consistently, and permanently.
This doesn’t happen in a single workout.
It happens when:
You are in a calorie deficit (eating fewer calories than your body needs)
You do this consistently (not just Monday to Thursday)
You give it enough time (3–6 weeks minimum before judging progress)
This is when the body has no choice but to dip into stored body fat for energy — and that’s what leads to clothes feeling looser, cheeks looking sharper, and people looking at you with envy.
Because marketers are clever. And shady.
They’ll say:
“This workout targets fat burning.”
Or
“This zone burns more fat.”
Or
“Take this supplement to increase fat oxidation.”
Sounds fancy. Sounds like you’re losing weight. But it’s all smoke and mirrors unless your overall calorie balance is right.
Yes, you can burn fat during a fasted workout…
But if you eat a 700-calorie paratha after that, your body will just restore that burned fat like nothing happened.
Yes, it exists.
But it’s about which fuel your body uses for energy, not how much fat you actually lose.
At lower intensities (like walking), your body tends to burn a higher percentage of fat for fuel.
At higher intensities (like sprinting or weight training), it burns more carbs for fuel.
But again — none of this matters unless you're in a calorie deficit overall.
It’s not about which energy tank your body dips into…
It’s about whether the entire system is running at a net loss.
Fat burners do one thing very well: burn a hole in your wallet.
They’re usually just:
Caffeine
Green tea extract
More caffeine
Maybe some chilli powder
Do they increase fat oxidation slightly? Sure.
But again — unless you’re eating fewer calories than your body needs, you’re just burning fat for a few hours and then storing it again later.
Save your money. Spend it on eggs, chicken, and a gym membership instead.
Because if you confuse “fat burning” with “fat loss,” you’ll keep spinning your wheels:
You’ll chase cardio zones instead of results
You’ll think your morning walks are enough when your food’s still out of control
You’ll fall for gimmicks instead of focusing on the real strategy: consistency over time
And worse — when things don’t work, you’ll blame your genetics, your hormones, your age, your metabolism, your culture, and everything else… except the actual problem.
Which is that you’ve been misled. Over and over again.
Focus on being in a consistent calorie deficit
Prioritise protein and resistance training to preserve muscle
Move more, yes — but don’t obsess over “fat burning” workouts
Track weekly trends, not daily scales
Stop switching plans every 7 days — give it time to work
You’re not broken.
Your body isn’t resisting fat loss.
You’re just confusing fuel usage (fat burning) with actual long-term results (fat loss).
The sooner you know the difference, the sooner you’ll stop wasting time, money, and motivation on things that don’t matter.
Let the influencers sell their detox tea.
You’ve got science on your side.
